How to Get Out of Detention: A Comic for Immigrant Detainees

Donate to our new Kickstarter here - https://bit.ly/eachotherkickstarter In October, human rights charity EachOther, working in partnership with BID (Bail for Immigration Detainees) a charity , is crowdfunding to raise money for a comic book version of BID's self-help guide, How To Get Out Of Detention.

Our guide 'How to get out of detention' has already helped thousands of people to apply for immigration bail. Now we're working with Each Other to supercharge it into a more accessible, illustrated, easy-read version and we need your help to make it happen!

All detention centres in the UK are required to stock this legal guide, but we want to make a more accessible version for non-English speakers by 'translating' this legal guide into the more narrative format of a comic.

The handbook aims to break down the UK’s complex bail law into simple terms to empower people to secure their own release from detention. It does so by guiding readers through four routes out of detention:

  • Home Office bail
  • Bail from an immigration judge
  •  Bail from the High Court
  •  A successful immigration case

It provides answers to key questions, from ‘Why am I in detention?’ to ‘Who can be a financial guarantor/supporter?’ as well as providing a sample of the B1 bail application form, a template for writing grounds for bail, an explanation of what to expect at a hearing, and a list of important contacts.

Thousands have used the guide to get out of detention. Now, with the help of Each Other and a team of talented artists such as Jon Sack, Sabba KhanRumbidzai Savanhu, Dominique Duong and Shazleen Khan, we want to reach more people than ever by transforming the guide into an illustrated easy-read version.

We believe it is vital that more people detained under immigration powers know about their rights, help us  in our mission by supporting the crowdfunder now.
