BID prepared a briefing on post-release accommodation for the Joint Committee on Human Rights' inquiry into immigration detention.

On 15th January 2018, the Home Office changed the system for provision of post-release accommodation. This included the repeal of section 4(1)(c)  and its replacement with a complex system in which it is very difficult for detainees to access Home Office accommodation. For many detainees who are homeless, they remain detained for far longer than they would have under the previous regime. Others are released into destitution by the Home Office.
