You'll join more than 24,000 runners taking on the vibrant streets of East London, cheered on by thousands of supporters, while raising vital funds for our work.
Why run for BID?
Every year, BID helps people in immigration detention understand and access their legal rights and apply for bail.
We provide free legal advice, run a vital advice line, visit detention centres and prisons, and support people challenging detention and deportation.
When people are detained, they often face significant barriers to accessing legal advice and support. Our legal advice surveys show access to justice in detention is now at a record low, yet more people are being detained.
BID is a small, independent charity powered by the generosity of supporters, volunteers and fundraisers. Every pound you raise will help ensure people can access free legal advice.
Your fundraising could help:
- Keep our advice line running, providing free legal advice to people in detention.
- Fund visits to detention centres and prisons, helping people access face-to-face immigration advice.
- Cover communication costs such as interpreting, telephone calls and postage, breaking down barriers to justice.
- Contribute towards expert evidence needed to challenge deportation decisions and secure people's freedom.
- Challenge unlawful detention and hold the Home Office to account
About the Hackney Half
The Hackney Half Marathon is the flagship event of Hackney Moves, the UK's largest outdoor fitness festival.
The exciting 13.1-mile route takes runners through the heart of East London, passing live music stages, DJs and enthusiastic crowds that create an unforgettable race-day atmosphere.
Whether you're aiming for a personal best or taking on your first half marathon, the Hackney Half is a fantastic way to challenge yourself and stand in solidarity with people in detention.

How to sign up
Places are allocated through Run for Charity. The registration fee is £30, and the fundraising target is £400.
We know fundraising can feel daunting, but it is a brilliant cause, and our runners usually manage to raise well above this. We'll be here to support you every step of the way with ideas, resources and encouragement to help you reach your target.
