A comparative study by the Open Society Justice Initiative and Africa Governance Monitoring and Advocacy Project. It describes the often arbitrary, discriminatory, and contradictory citizenship laws that exist from state to state, and recommends ways that African countries can bring their citizenship laws in line with international legal norms.  The report covers topics such as citizenship by descent, citizenship by naturalization, gender discrimination in citizenship law, dual citizenship, and the right to identity documents and passports. The complete second edition of the report is available for download in English and French.

UNHCR, (2008), Statelessness: An Analytical Framework for Prevention, Reduction and Protection 

This publication is intended to assist in the prevention and reduction of statelessness and the protection of stateless persons by providing a framework for analysing situations where persons are stateless or are at risk of becoming stateless. The Framework is designed to identify causes of statelessness, obstacles to acquisition of nationality and the risks faced by stateless persons as well as to highlight the capacities of all concerned stakeholders to minimize those risks.
