Facts & Figures

What happens to detainees once they are released on bail?

Bail is rarely granted indefinitely. Once released, a detainee will be required to attend court again for bail renewals, and to attend any immigration appeals. Anyone granted permanent status in the UK will be released from bail.

However, if a judge fails to renew bail at a bail hearing an individual may be detained again. Many asylum seekers and foreign nationals released from immigration detention are supported through the UK Border Agency’s Asylum Support system (formerly called NASS) and are subject to the same rules and procedures as other asylum seekers and immigrants supported in this way.
